Meet Carleena
As a toddler some of my earliest memories were reciting rock tunes with my parents. I had always loved music and decided to start with the flute at age 9. Full transparency, I was not the strongest player in the group. Like a lot of first time students, I grew frustrated and wanted to stop. Luckily, I was told I had to at least finish up my first year before my parents would consider it.
By the start of the next coming school year the code was cracked and I finally realized why I was always stuck and lost during full band rehearsals yet it seemed like others knew exactly where to be.
It was all fundamentals! These terms, symbols and signs that were not brought to my attention or maybe just not in the right capacity, were exactly what was holding me back. Upon this realization I began to study them, work with my new teacher and by the end of the same year I was able to achieve first chair and a phone call to my home inquiring about me working with my new band teacher as a private student because I was so diligent and advanced.
My Motivation…
To make sure that all students are enthusiastic, dedicated and enjoying reading, learning and playing music.
My beliefs…
Build strength, confidence and the ability to understand the written material making for an all around better player and learner. Too many public school music programs lack emphasis on this and the retention rate for new music students swindles each year. Students loose confidence, become disinterested, bored or embarrassed and no longer want to continue.
By overcoming my own struggles with the basics, I discovered the true power of understanding music from the ground up. Now, I’m passionate about helping students build that same foundation to grow, learn, and succeed.
